Till skillnad från Fats Dominos avspända r&b presenterade sig Little Richard med en aggressiv och tydligt gospelpåverkad r&r-stil. Hans besvärjande och skrikiga sång, i vilken texten ofta framfördes som ljudhärmande nonsensord till det staccatoliknande pianokompet, stod också i kontrast till Chuck Berry.
